STILL STANDING

During the month of May, major league baseball begins and fans fill the ball park all over to cheer for the home team. It’s an everyday dream for an athlete. It’s a dream that can be traced all the way to little league. In the inner cities of the U.S baseball is becoming instinct. Force to take a back seat to the more popular sports such as football and basketball. But in Newark N.J, there is a special person on a mission to help restore baseball dreams in the minds of young rising baseball stars.
Two thin bicycles like tires roll up the hill being pushed by strong arms and determination, in tow is a hand full of young boys from the neighborhood carrying bats and gloves. The man sitting in the wheelchair is Rodney Mason a onetime rising baseball star himself until an assailants bullet to his spine ruin his dreams of going pro. There are many challenges Rodney faces as a disable coach. The majorities of his players are classified as the rouge kid’s indiscipline, always in trouble, and have no respect for adults. Also some doubt his ability to handle his own team. He teaches his Newark Eagles team not only to be good players, but also how to make positive choices and how to improve their attitude. The players have a special bond with him because of his patience. Even when a player needs extra help coach Roc as they call him will always take the extra time to help developed a player. The Eagles started out at the bottom of the standings but are finally coming together for a strong finish as they head into the playoffs. No matter the out come coach Roc remains very Proud of his team and never gives up on anyone.Rodney Mason is a asset to our community and no doubt a true All-star in the hearts and minds of young baseball players.Though confined to a wheelchair he still gets the job done. It's a great lesson for kids to learn how to over come any obstacles.
As darkness sets in and practice comes to a close Jose the team’s pitcher grab the coaches’ wheeler chair handles and gives him a push home. TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK!
